Krystal International Vacation Club Resorts have a long-standing history of supporting local charities, especially those that help underprivileged local children. Throughout this year’s holiday season, the staff at Krystal International Resorts participated in a gift and donation drive to help many local children celebrate El Día de Reyes of 2022.
In many Latin countries, the 12th day after Christmas (often called El Día de Reyes or the Twelfth Night) is a special day of celebration. January 6th is the day most Christians commemorate the arrival of the three wise men who brought gifts for the Christ Child. And this year, the staff of Krystal International Resorts was able to help the Three Kings by delivering gifts to some very excited children.
Krystal International Vacation Club Celebrate Children on El Día de Reyes
For many children in Latin America and Spain, Santa Claus may bring one or two small gifts, but the three kings bring most of their special holiday presents. Mexican children often write letters requesting their desired toy or gift to the Three Kings instead of Santa Claus. Sometimes, the letters are attached to helium-filled balloons and released a few days after Christmas, so they have time to reach the kings by air before their arrival date.
Traditionally, on the night of January 5th, children would put their old shoes near the door, sometimes with a bit of hay for the kings’ animals and a small wish list on top. Then the following morning, the children would find the hay replaced by gifts and treats.
More recently, the three kings tend to place gifts for the children under the Christmas tree or near the nativity scene upon their arrival. However, not all families in Mexico have their own tree or nativity scene, so this is why both staff and visitors to the Krystal International Resorts were encouraged to gather their donated gifts under the resorts’ Christmas trees.
The celebration of El Día de Reyes at the Krystal International Resorts was a tremendous success. Many children who may have otherwise not received a gift were pleasantly surprised to find that presents were waiting for them.
We would like to offer special thanks to Mario Vega, Tom Fisher, and all the team at Krystal International Vacation Club
All of the families that participated in the celebration enjoyed the day, which included traditional treats such as hot chocolate and several Rosca de Reyes, sweetbreads shaped like a wreath and decorated with candied fruit. Everyone involved enjoyed sharing in the giving and receiving of gifts, and plans are already in the works to make next year’s celebration even bigger.
